Cloud Spin

A lonely camera wanders into a cloud party.
This project idea came to me while I was experimenting with Unity's Visual Effects Graph and imagined thousands of dancers as tiny particles moving randomly in a cloud. That made me think of how many people are dancing with themselves at home and what would happen if they were all brought together.
I had to rely on a lot of stock and archival footage of dancers that had to be rotoscoped individually.
These dancers were then fed into a custom real-time particle system spawning them at random,
allowing me to virtually fly through this cloud whilst listening to music.
The colourful splash/ motion-trail effects were added later on.
I picked a song by Florian (Artlist.io) that fit the scene. Initially I wanted to find something that resembles Ethio Jazz (e.g Mulatu Astatke - Tezeta) but found that reggae works nicely as well.
Later I ran this song through various digital delay effects as the cloud party turns progressively psychedelic.

Here's a quick BTS montage of various video recordings I made throughout the process.
